  1. I spent 2 nights at Panthalams home-stay and thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. Shukkor is very knowledgeable about Kumily, Thekkady and surrounding areas and is very personable.

He welcomed me into his home and took good care while I was there. His wife and him are both great cooks and will treat you to excellent Kerala cusine.

The rooms are spotlessly clean and have attached bathrooms. The view from the balcony is fantastic when you can see mist cover the forest before you.

If you are in the area, make sure you stay here - and you'll keep coming back for more!

  2. I and Anneli spent a few days at Panthalams and it turned out to become one of our travel hightlights so far. Shukkoor and his family run a real homestay that lives up to its name where guest are treated as such! We had a wonderful time in a perfectly clean room with our own part of terace, a hanging chair to read and a nice view into the green. The food they made was some of the best Indian food of our two months old trip in India so far. Thanks a lot for everything, Anneli and Markus

  3. After 3 weeks in India, Panthalams is a much welcome retreat. No loud city noises, or busy Rickshaws, but just Monkeys and the birds to sing you to sleep at night.

The dinner was great, fresh fish with dhal and rice. The breakfast, as well, was a good simple tasty way to wake up in the mornings.

Shukkoor has good connections in the town and surroundings, and he will be able to direct you to any of the natural sites to be had in the area.

If you get a chance to check out the Periyar Wildlife sanctuary, be sure to look him up. You won't regret it one bit.

    cheers,

  4. Off the bus at 1am in the morning to Kumily, and straight to a very welcoming, friendly, clean, comfortable and courteous homestay away from the bustle of the town centre, yet less than a nice 10min walk in.

I had a delicious fish curry rustled up for me the first night, and without ever being pushy, they helped arrange the must-do tea plantation and wildlife reserve trips with a minimum off fuss.

Thanks Shukkoor, my stay has been very pleasurable indeed.

  5. This was the cleanest, most quiet, friendly place I stayed at on my 6 week cycling trip of India. A very nice break from the hustle and bustle of India. Shukkoor, the owner, and his family were extremely hospitable. He was always checking on me to make sure things were OK, constantly bringing me strong cups of coffee, preparing delicious local cuisine, and giving me advice on best how to enjoy my stay in Kumily. The first night I arrived, he took me on a motorbike trip of the town and to see some local dancers- no charge- just wanted me to be acquainted with the area. Don't hesitate in staying here- you won't regret it.

Thanks Shukkoor, From Rich the cyclist from Oregon, USA

  6. Spend the weekend in Thekkady. We had a wonderful time enjoying the natural surroundings of this beautiful and tranquil area from the elephant sanctuary to the spice garden to the natural preserves. The host, Shukkoor, was very helpful, knowledgeable and hospitable. The accommodations are clean and spacious. The view from the balcony of the rooms is very calming. A wonderful and welcoming stay!
